I like to start the classes with some warm up patterning and technique exercises for ten minutes or so. Just walking, side stepping, grapevines, crossovers, pivots and contra-body twists. Usually solo but sometimes paired.
Next, I work with the continuing dancers on the theme of the month (or two). Usually review and then something new. In and out of ochos or sacadas or barridas. Some months are reserved for milonga or vals and then back to the basics.
During the second hour, I work with any new or beginning dancers on the basics of posture, embrace, walking, the cruzada, ochos and molinettes, and the history and culture of Tango.
I encourage the new dancers to participate in the first part of the class to acquaint them with the dancers and the intricacies of the dance.
Finally we practice for the last hour.
Milongas in Hilo and Kamuela are scheduled on months that have 5 Thursdays or 5 Tuesdays. Contact me for information on the next scheduled milonga.
