On March 6th, 2007 the first regularly scheduled Argentine Tango class and practica were established in Kamuela on the Big Island of Hawaii. On the first anniversary of that event another class and practica were established in the city of Hilo. Each class meets consistently every week on Tuesdays in Kamuela and on Thursdays in Hilo.
At 2500 feet elevation, cool and comfortable Kamuela, is centrally located between the main populations of Hilo and Hamakua on the north and east coasts and the Kona and Kohala coasts on the west side of the Island.
Hilo is the county seat and main population center of the island and home to several dance clubs. Kona is the other population center on the west side with an active community of ballroom and latin dancers.
A new class and Milonga has just been established on the 3rd Friday of each month at the Wellness Center in Pu’uanahulu. Classes are even available in remote Pahala in the southeastern part of the island.
Our tango community is quite new in association and sparsely scattered around the Island yet passionate and dedicated to gathering together to enjoy the lifestyle and culture that is Tango.
We all live very busy lives and are not always able to drive the distance to gather....but we do, and....it just takes 2 to Tango.
E komo mai. Join us when you visit our beautiful Island home.
